Planning an electrification project? What manufacturers should consider before investing

Australian manufacturers looking to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions have a new opportunity to accelerate their plans. 

The recently launched $10 million SME Industrial Decarbonisation Fund, delivered by the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre (AMGC) and funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), provides matched funding for eligible projects that reduce emissions through electrification and other low emissions technologies. The program aims to help manufacturers modernise operations while improving energy efficiency and long-term competitiveness. 

While the funding is welcome news, it also raises an important question for manufacturers: if you're investing in electrification, how do you make sure you're investing in the right technology? 

Why manufacturers were already rethinking electrification 

For many Australian manufacturers, the pressure to improve efficiency has been building for years.

Reducing electricity consumption is important; however, reliability can have an even greater impact on profitability. 

Every unplanned shutdown carries hidden costs through lost production, delayed deliveries, and emergency maintenance. Evaluating how new equipment will perform over years of operation is just as important as assessing its efficiency rating.
